5 Happiness Tips From Bob the Builder
Anyone with children of a certain age knows how much little ones love Bob The Builder. He's such a happy chappie and certainly seems to have rose-tinted glasses. But there's no denying he knows his stuff, when it comes to how to feel happier.
Having been force-fed a regular dose of Bob The Builder by my boys over the last few years, I've had plenty of opportunity to study his strategies and figure out why he seems to enjoy life so much.
So here are 5 top happiness tips from cartoon Bob.
1. Believe you can
Henry Ford is often quoted as saying, "Whether you believe you can, or you believe you can't, you're right."
Bob The Builder was clearly made aware of this fact at school, which is why he loves the catchphrase,
"Can we fix it?"
"Yes we can!"
This positive mental attitude helps Bob and his team get out of tricky situations in every single episode.
2. Share the load
Bob The Builder clearly understands the value of having the right support around him. That's why he never undertakes a job without his trusty machine team and side-kick Wendy by his side.
Take a tip from Bob: ask for help when you need it and don't be afraid to accept offers of support.
3. Praise loudly, blame softly
This is one that Bob must have picked up at school in history lessons, because it's a quote attributed to Catherine The Great (1729 to 1796).
Have you ever noticed that even when one of his machine team makes a disastrous mess, Bob never loses his rag. He simply makes sure they help put things right and learn from their mistake.
4. Always look for the best in people
You have to admit that some of Bob's team are a little dizzy. In fact, we often see Bob having to explain even simple concepts and ideas to them. Yet he never sounds irritated or impatient. That's because he always looks for the best in people and clearly runs with the belief that there's no such thing as a stupid question. He would much rather have to explain something up front than have to put it right afterwards.
5. Be kind
Bob The Builder has to be one of the kindest characters on television. He's always there to help, whether it's to fix a leaking pipe or rebuild your wall after Lofty has accidentally smashed it when scared by a mouse.
Kindness is a trait that is seriously undervalued these days.
It could be said that Bob has problems with setting boundaries, though, as he never says no and always puts others first.
So it's about balance. Kindness and compassion, whilst still taking the space to nurture yourself.
So there you have it, 5 happiness tips from Bob The Builder. And I think you'll agree that he's a wise and insightful character. Give him credit where credit's due: he is a very happy Bob.
